The Narayana Cup Regatta, a traditional wooden boat race which takes place every year on the Sligo Coast. This Year the launch was from Rosses Point Pier Sligo. 15-08-2009 History Narayana On 29th. November, 1886, the 384 ton Norwegian barque, Narayana, was wrecked in Sligo Bay. She was en route from Shediac, New Brunswick to Ayr with a cargo of deal and put in to shelter. The anchor dragged and broke and she was driven ashore on the west side of Coney Island. The captain and crew were rescued. A small cannon remains on the island while a nameplate from a lifeboat is in Austies pub at Rosses Point. all images © Colin Gillen/Framelight.ie
